WOW Pet can be worth it if you are looking for a wide range for dogs and cats, a high meat content and good value for money. But read the declaration carefully, not every variety name keeps its promise.
- Wet food with up to around 71 % meat content
- 68 out of 100 points in a brand comparison, wet food much stronger than dry food
- Subscription with a permanent 18 % discount
- Made by PetCo GmbH from Vienna
Have you ever sat in front of your screen and lost track between Adult, Junior, Pur and a dozen varieties, wondering which WOW food actually suits your dog or cat? A cat that pointedly ignores the food bowl, or a dog loudly demanding a say, is probably familiar to every pet owner. Both have a surprisingly clear opinion on taste, just sadly none on the declaration.
This overview helps you decide whether WOW Pet really saves you time and money or rather raises extra questions.
Range for dogs and cats
WOW Pet is made by PetCo GmbH from Vienna, which also runs the brand Dog's Love. The range for dogs and cats includes wet and dry food, snacks, supplements and special lines based on age, activity and tolerance.
High meat content, protein sources like beef, turkey or fish, often with vegetables instead of grain.
Size and texture suited to puppies, adults and seniors. Check crude protein, fat and additives.
From beef scalp to grain free rewards, soft training snacks for puppies.
Omega 3 oils, joint supplements and other nutritional additives.
Most dogs treat beef scalp roughly like a world cup trophy, guarded for hours and shared only reluctantly. Still, use snacks sparingly, add the calories to the daily requirement and read the ingredients carefully if your dog has allergies.
WOW Adult and special lines
WOW Adult is positioned as an everyday food, for example the beef with carrot and zucchini variety, which combines a high meat content with vegetables. On top of that there are grain free varieties, a "Pur" line with only one type of meat for sensitive animals, a Junior line for puppies between 2 and 12 months with eggshell powder as a natural calcium source, and cat food without carbohydrates.
There is something poetic about eggshells of all things building strong bones while the puppy is only just learning not to trip over its own paws. If your dog has special needs regarding weight, allergies or activity, it is worth talking to your vet about the right line.
Ingredients and declaration in detail
WOW relies on a high meat content and grain free recipes, with a few limitations in the naming that you should know before you buy a specific variety on purpose.
Meat content and variety names
Tested WOW wet food varieties such as WOW Adult with beef, carrot and zucchini reach a meat content of around 71 percent, a really strong value. However, variety names do not always reflect the dominant ingredient.
Grain free: benefits and limits
Many WOW varieties are grain free and use vegetables, potatoes or sweet potatoes as a carbohydrate source. For dogs with grain sensitivity this can mean fewer digestive problems.
But grain free does not automatically mean better for every dog, some tolerate carbohydrate rich energy sources just as well or even need them. Check for each variety which ingredients supply the carbohydrates.
Experiences and test results
In a comprehensive brand comparison, WOW scored 68 out of 100 points and ranked 49th out of 180 tested brands. Notably, the wet food performed much better with an average of 86 points than the dry food with only 35 points. So if you go with WOW, lean towards the wet food. You can find the full results in the WOW dog food test by Hundeo.
Overall, customers praise the quality of the ingredients and the fast delivery. Criticism occasionally concerns smell, texture and the sometimes unclear quantities given for organ meats.
Prices, subscription and discount code
WOW is mid range in price and offers good value for money, especially for wet food with a high meat content. Always compare the price per kilogram instead of just the pack price, can sizes and bag formats differ a lot.
With the same meat content, WOW can be cheaper than premium brands but more expensive than discounters. If you depend on individual organ meats or strict single protein recipes, costs rise quickly.
With the in house subscription you get a permanent 18 percent discount as long as the subscription runs. If you prefer to order once, you will find the current codes on our WOW Pet coupon page:
Now at WOW PetAll codesWho is WOW Pet right for?
WOW suits owners looking for grain free, meat focused food who do not have the highest premium budget. The range covers wet and dry food as well as snacks, handy if you want to order the complete diet in one place. For accessories such as bowls or toys you will need another shop, though.
If your dog has allergies, take a look at the "Pur" line. The Junior line suits puppies, the matching age lines suit seniors. If regional raw materials matter to you, the Austrian origin speaks for WOW.
Your dog will not care much about the postcode of its food, as long as the bowl is filled on time.
