What is the GOT?
The GOT is the binding fee schedule for vets in Germany. It sets a single rate for each service. Vets may charge 1 to 3 times this rate, depending on effort.
Why does the vet charge more at night?
In emergency service at night, at weekends and on public holidays, the rate is at least double and up to four times. An emergency fee of 50 € is added.
What is not included in the estimate?
Medicines, vaccines, bandages, lab tests and other material are billed separately. That is why the real bill is often higher than the fees alone.
Is the GOT changing?
The GOT from 2022 is being reviewed. According to the German government, results of the study are expected at the end of 2026. We will update the calculator.
Does pet insurance help?
Pet health or surgery insurance can cover part of these costs. Compare what is covered and up to which GOT rate before you sign.
