Frequently asked questions
How do I measure my dog for a carrier?
Measure standing: A from the nose to the base of the tail, B from the floor to the elbow, C across the shoulders and D from the floor to the top of the head or ear tip.
Which formula does the calculator use?
The IATA formula for pets in air travel: length A plus half of B, width C times 2, height D plus bedding. Snub-nosed breeds get a 10 % larger container.
Can two pets share one carrier?
IATA allows it for animals up to 14 kg that are used to each other. The width then becomes C times 3 for two and C times 4 for three animals.
Is the size also right for the car?
The IATA size is a good minimum for car and home, too. Your pet must be able to stand, sit, lie naturally and turn around.
Do airlines have their own rules?
Yes. Many airlines have their own limits for the cabin and the hold. Check with your airline before you buy a carrier.
