How we calculate
We use the table „Recommendations for growth rates of various sizes of dogs“ from the WALTHAM Pocket Book of Puppy Nutrition and Care, adapted from the National Research Council (NRC 2006). It shows what percentage of their adult weight puppies have reached at a given age. Between the months we interpolate evenly. The result is a guide value: every dog grows a little differently.
| Age months | Small to medium | Large | Giant |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 9 % | 7 % | 6 % |
| 2 | 22 % | 20 % | 14 % |
| 3 | 37 % | 35 % | 26 % |
| 4 | 52 % | 48 % | 38 % |
| 5 | 61 % | 57 % | 49 % |
| 6 | 70 % | 65 % | 60 % |
| 9 | 83 % | 77 % | 70 % |
| 12 | 95 % | 88 % | 80 % |
| 15 | adult | 94 % | 90 % |
| 18 | adult | 100 % | 100 % |
Share of adult weight. Small to medium: under 25 kg, large: 25 to 45 kg, giant: over 45 kg.
And the height?
There is no scientifically proven formula for the shoulder height of puppies. Rules of thumb like „75 percent of adult height at 6 months“ have no traceable evidence. That is why we only show height when you choose a breed, exactly as stated in the official FCI breed standard.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the forecast?
It is a guide value. The percentages come from a veterinary nutrition table for three size classes. Breed, sex and feeding change growth. For a more precise curve, weigh your puppy regularly and discuss the values with your vet.
When is my dog fully grown?
According to the table, small and medium dogs are fully grown at about 12 to 15 months, large dogs at about 18 months. Giant dogs need up to 2 years according to Waltham.
Why is the result less certain for mixed breeds?
With mixed breeds it is often unclear which size class the dog will end up in. Choose „Automatic“ and calculate again with the new weight after a few weeks.
Can the calculator predict height?
No, there is no proven formula for that. If you choose a breed, we show you the height according to the official FCI breed standard, separately for males and females.
