Purina Pro Plan review 2026: varieties, prices and discount code

The short answer

Pro Plan is a large range with a great many targeted recipes for life stage, size and needs, but not a food with a particularly high meat content or a single-protein focus.

• Plenty of choice for sensitive digestion, skin, weight and seniors
• Dry food without discount at around €4.64 to €8.00 per kilo
• Not single-protein, so not suitable for an elimination diet
• Discount in the Purina shop for registered customers

Purina Pro Plan is one of the best-known pet food brands on the shelf, and with big brands in particular it is worth taking a close look at what is behind the name.

In this article we look at who is behind Pro Plan, which varieties there are for dogs and cats, what the food costs, and who it suits or rather does not. If you mainly care about as much meat as possible in the recipe, take a close look at the ingredient list.

Who is behind Pro Plan?

Pro Plan is a Purina brand that, according to its own information, combines modern research with 90 years of experience. According to the manufacturer, the products are developed together with vets and nutrition experts. This is a self-declaration that we report here without being able to verify it independently.

Pro Plan is positioned as a premium line focused on targeted nutrition: instead of one standard food, there are many recipes tailored to life stage, build and health needs.

Range: varieties by life stage and need

The range is remarkably broad. We looked through it on the manufacturer's website and in the Purina shop, as of 7 October 2026.

Dogs: dry food at the core

For dogs, the focus is clearly on dry food. In addition, the shop offers complete dietetic feeds such as JM Joint Mobility to support mobility or NC NeuroCare to support brain function, each from €35. The wet food for dogs listed in the shop consists of veterinary dietetic feeds, for example for gastrointestinal problems, food intolerances or kidney disease. These diets only belong in the bowl after consulting your vet.

Cats: from kitten to senior

There is also Pro Plan for cats by life stage and in special varieties: Kitten, Adult, Senior as well as varieties for sensitive digestion, neutered cats and kidney support. One special feature is Pro Plan LIVECLEAR, which according to the manufacturer is meant to reduce allergens on cat hair. Wet food for cats comes in sauce, for example for sensitive digestion or sterilised cats.

Ingredients: what is in one variety

As an example we take the grain-free Pro Plan Adult Medium & Large Sensitive Digestion with turkey. According to the manufacturer's website, it consists of high-quality turkey (16 %), dried chicken protein, cassava (12 %), pea starch, soya meal, animal fats, dried poultry protein and beet pulp with prebiotics, plus dried egg and fish oil. The analytical constituents are 28 percent protein and 16 percent fat.

For you this means: the main meat source is named, but the recipe is not single-protein and contains chicken, egg and fish besides turkey, as well as soya. Compared with brands that advertise 50 percent meat and more, such as Wildfang Adult Wild, the declared meat content is lower. That is not a flaw in itself, but a difference you should know about.

Prices and value for money

Prices in the Purina shop (without discount, as of 7 October 2026) for dogs are around €23.99 for 3 kilograms, so roughly €8.00 per kilo, and €64.99 for 14 kilograms, so about €4.64 per kilo, for example for Large Robust Adult. The grain-free Sensitive Digestion with turkey starts at €19.99 for 2.5 kilograms. For cats, 10 kilograms of dry food in the sensitive digestion varieties cost €64.99.

For comparison: among the brands we present on the blog, GranataPet Natural Taste costs €6.25 to €8.75 per kilo, bosch dry food from about €6 per kilo and Wildfang dry food around €8.33 per kilo. So Pro Plan sits in the middle of the premium range, not cheap, but not at the top end either.

How much your dog eats per day depends on size and activity. The feeding recommendation for Sensitive Digestion gives about 315 grams per day for a 25 kilo dog with up to one hour of activity; with the small 2.5 kilo pack that would be around €2.50 a day. With the pet food calculator you can find the amount for your dog.

Who does Pro Plan suit, and who not so much?

Pro Plan suits owners who are looking for a broad range with targeted recipes for life stage, size and need and who value a large manufacturer. If you are looking for a food for sensitive skin or weight management, you get plenty of choice here. Owners of a cat who are allergic to cat hair might also take a look at LIVECLEAR.

Pro Plan is less of a fit if you are planning an elimination diet with a single protein source, are looking for a particularly meat-rich food or have to watch the price closely. And for health questions, whether diet or special food, the decision belongs with your vet.

And if, despite the best ingredients, feeding table and research, your dog demands a second bowl right after the first one, that is not a flaw of the brand, but most likely a perfectly normal dog.
