You know that moment when your dog sniffs the new food suspiciously, nudges it once with a paw and looks at you as if you had just handed over a bill? That is exactly when you find out whether the search for a really good food was worth it. We take an honest look at Escapure, without the marketing glasses.
Escapure comes from Bavaria, was founded around Lake Chiemsee and has been part of the Seitz Group, one of the larger premium manufacturers of dog and cat food in Germany, since 2019. We look at recipes, labelling, experiences and prices so you can judge whether the food suits your dog.
What is Escapure?
Escapure clearly positions itself in the premium segment and wants to stand out from classic supermarket dry food through the way it is made. Instead of relying on fillers, the brand promotes a short, traceable ingredient list and exact percentages that add up to 100 percent. In the dry food segment, that is not a given.
Baking instead of extruding
Most dry food brands extrude their recipes at 100 to 180 degrees, while Escapure uses a gentle baking process at lower temperatures instead. This is supposed to preserve nutrients and vitamins better than classic extrusion.
For you as an owner, this mainly means a different texture and, according to the manufacturer, better nutrient density. You can hardly check that at home, though, so you have to rely on the labelling.
Recipes and ingredients in detail
Let’s look at what actually ends up in the bowl. There are clear differences in meat content between dry and wet food.
Dry food: single-protein varieties and meat content
For its dry food, Escapure relies on single protein sources: beef, horse, venison and lamb are each available as their own single-protein recipe, plus a separate puppy line. In the Beef Premium variety, the fresh meat content before baking is around 55 percent, and in the finished product it works out at about 26 percent.
That is normal for dry food because of the water removed, but it makes comparing it with wet food difficult. This is also the point of criticism that independent tests mention most often: for a premium product, the pure meat content could be a little higher.
Wet food: Gulasch and Pur lines
The cans show much more meat: the Gulasch (goulash) line has around 65 percent meat from five animal sources, including muscle meat, heart, liver, tripe and lung. It is also available as a single-protein variant (beef, venison, horse, lamb, goat, duck). In some independent tests, one Gulasch variety even reached 82 percent meat content.
The Pur cans focus even more purely on meat and offal, complemented by menus with vegetables and herbs for anyone who wants some variety in the bowl.
Grain-free and for food intolerances
All Escapure recipes are grain-free, using potato flakes and amaranth instead of wheat or maize. This makes the single-protein varieties generally well suited to an elimination diet.
Some tests criticise, however, that the wet food cans do not always break down exactly how much muscle meat, liver, kidney and lung each contains. So the shares could be distributed differently, even if only one type of meat is used overall.
Experiences and independent tests
The ingredient list and manufacturing process are one thing, whether your dog actually likes the food in the end is another.
Customer feedback often describes Escapure as high quality, with noticeably careful sourcing of ingredients, especially for the snacks. With the single-protein varieties, owners report good tolerance, especially in dogs that have already tried several protein sources. In one test, a dog showed slight sensitivity after the second portion, but the testers attributed this more to individual tolerance than to the product. A single case is not a reliable yardstick anyway.
Transparent percentages and the gentle baking process are consistently praised in tests.
For a premium product, the pure meat content could be higher.
Comparable premium brands such as Josera, Wolfsblut or Bosch sometimes cost 20 to 30 percent less.
Overall, independent tests rate Escapure at 9.2 out of 10 points and award it a 5-star seal, but that does not put the brand at the very top of the winners’ podium.

Who is Escapure worth it for?
Escapure is a good fit for owners who value a short, traceable ingredient list and are willing to pay a little more than for other premium brands for the gentle production and German origin. The single-protein varieties are especially worth a look for dogs with food intolerances.
If, on the other hand, you mainly look for the highest possible meat content in dry food or the cheapest price per kilo, it is worth comparing with other brands, for example in our Tales & Tails review, which also focuses heavily on single protein. Our pet food calculator works out how much food your dog needs.
And if your dog sniffs the new variety sceptically at first: give it a moment, most dogs get over their suspicion by the second bowl at the latest.
